How is the CRS score calculated?

The CRS score is the sum of four blocks of points, up to a maximum of 1,200. The first three measure your profile (human capital); the last one adds points for specific situations, including a provincial nomination worth 600 points on its own.

BlockWhat countsMaximum
Core human capitalAge, education, official languages, Canadian experience500 (460 with a spouse)

Additional pointsProvincial nomination, French, studies in Canada, sibling600

Since March 25, 2025, a job offer no longer gives CRS points: the calculator applies this rule.

French: the most rewarding lever

French counts several times: in the language score, in skill transferability and through a French-language bonus of 25 to 50 points. Above all, IRCC holds draws reserved for candidates with at least NCLC 7 in all four French skills, often with much lower cut-offs than general draws. See recent draws.

Each skill is converted separately. The French-language bonus and French-language draws require at least NCLC 7 in all four. More in our article on TCF scores and NCLC levels.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CRS score?
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) ranks Express Entry candidates out of 1,200 points based on age, education, official languages, work experience and additional factors. IRCC invites candidates whose score is above the cut-off of each draw.
How many CRS points is French worth?
French can be worth up to 136 points as a first official language (without a spouse), up to 24 points as a second language, plus a bonus of 25 points (NCLC 7 in all 4 skills) or 50 points if you also have at least CLB 5 in English. It also counts towards skill transferability.
How do I convert my TCF Canada score to NCLC?
Each skill is converted separately: for example, NCLC 7 means 458 to 502 points in listening, 453 to 498 in reading and 10 or 11 out of 20 in writing and speaking. The calculator does the conversion automatically.
What CRS score do I need to get an invitation?
The cut-off depends on the draw and the category. In 2026, French-language draws had cut-offs between 382 and 435 points, well below Canadian Experience Class draws.
Does this calculator replace the official tool?
No. It is an estimate based on the official grid published by IRCC. Only the score calculated in your Express Entry profile is authoritative.
